Criteria for Choosing Bank, Insurance Company, Etc

Page history last edited by Holly Swyers 6 years, 4 months ago

What are good criteria for deciding whether a bank, insurance company, doctor’s office, or similar kind of agency is a good fit for you?

Friends/Family Recommendations

After conducting our research, we had a few similar themes come up. We wanted to find out: what are good criteria for deciding whether a bank, insurance company, doctor’s office, or similar kind of agency is a good fit for you? Lots of people recommend that you should speak to outside sources such as friends or family before deciding upon any one of these offices or institutions. Melissa Adams recommended that when choosing a bank, one should “be willing to ask around to your friends and get their recommendations.” Olga Rushdie stated that it is important to “talk to family, and see what recommendations they have to offer.” Lastly, Bonnie Bennet said, “You should ask around for recommendations from friends and family, and possibly make a decision based off this.” There was a general consensus that people seemed to have, that you should talk to people about which banks, doctor's office, or insurance company to look into doing business with.

Reviews/ratings

Looking into reviews and ratings can make or break your decision to do business with a particular office or institution. If Chase has better reviews than Wells Fargo, you're more likely to do your banking with Chase. We also noted that people like doing research and looking at reviews prior to choosing a company. Family and friends have valued opinions as well. Quentin Tarkington said "Reading customer reviews and customer ratings and understanding if they're licensed, insured or qualified. I only go to a a bank if it is FDIC insured..."

Location

A few other things that are important to look at are location and reviews. If the location of the area is relatively close to you, you are more likely to go to that location. Arlene London, one of our interviewee said “I like proximity... If it’s close and I can have a face to face conversation.” Due to the reason that these people mentioned location within their responses, location is important to people.
